As we push through this cold snap I find my mind drifting towards warmer weather, bringing about warmer water and thoughts of casting in the late afternoon. This time of year 9 to 5ers hunker beneath the glow of computer screens chasing images of greenbacks with deer hair poppers dangling from bucket mouths and clips of top water explosions. Well, maybe it is just me. For the uninitiated I am talking summer bass on the fly. This is my way of (possibly over romantically) bringing up a gear question. Has anyone had any experience with the Sage Bass II rods? I have been looking at these for a while now and have never met anyone with any hands on experience with it. It looks to me in theory to be a perfect rod for chasing bass from the Kayak/Canoe.

Sean, I have no experience with that rod but I can tell you from lots of experience fishing from a sitting position out of a canoe and kayak that a nine foot rod is better at keeping the line out of the water and any standard 7 or 8wt will do the job. Never understood a rod specific for bass. I even know a certain fellow that uses a 6wt in the Niagara.

Andy, yeah my go to kayak rod is 9ft 7in 8wt wff. I am just curious about the Sage Bass II it talks about punch out big nasty flies with ease and it's I think 8 ft.

Don't quote me on this, but my understanding for the shorter bass rod length was because bass competitions have a maximum length of about 8 ft give or take. I don't think there is really a contributing factor to the length other than that. Seems like your favorite 8wt would work great but I also understand he with the most toys wins!

Very cool, thanks Nick. I dont know if i trust myself with a 8'10" 1 piece rod thats got my name all over to F* up in transit. I have heard nothing but the highest praise about ECHO. BTW -I did also read that fact about the rod length for tournament bass fishing rod length

I have heard of people using that rod for the salt. Supposedly punches line pretty good.
