Hi Guys, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Scott’s L2H switch rods? I am thing of getting the 11’6” 7wt for spring/summer bass & of course Spring/winter steelhead. They reccomed a 320 gr. Scandi & a 360 gr. Skagit… is that what I should go with line wise or is there a better fit for this rod? Thanks for any help & pointers, Nick C.

I own that rod and like it, its a fun stick! I like a 10 wt Wulff Ambush on it personally. It's 24' 400 grain skajity line. Seems to handle poly leaders just fine but not heavy polys with weighted flies, at least not with my limited casting skills. I tried a 450 Rage on it but personally like the ambush better. I have a Speydicator that I used a couple of times, it casts well but it's not my thing. I'll give you a deal on it;)I tried a line (can't remember what it was) closer to 300 grains and didn't have so much fun. Maybe for over head it would be fine but I did not like it for any kind of my spey casts.
FWIW here's what Nick told me about it before I bought it,
"i have only fished the 1157 a few days now but i like it a lot. it's a bit more of a 7/8 really and throws lines from about 450-550. these newer designs are kinda cool, they use really dense graphite but then build a slower taper. they bend easy but recover very quickly. i like the extra 6" most places and i think they will make a great all around rod for the area."
Hope that helps Cheers Chuck

Finally pulled the trigger & got it ( Scott L2H 7wt. 11.5') & paired it up with a whOrvis Battenlill Disc V Spey reel... it's actually pretty well made, nice to look at (for being made in China) and the price was fair; yeah I could've went American with the reel but the 25 yer warranty & look & feel of the Battenkill reel & how it balances out the rod are pretty hard to beat in my book... least the rod is made in the USA. Anywho I took your advice & paired it with the R.W. Ambush in a 10.5 wt and it seems to cast everything from monster bass deer hair & feather rigs to sparse size 6 steelhead spider flys pretty good. FWIW... this whole venture into buying a decent spey rod & reel has taught me that patience pays off.. thanks to ebay I got the rod + reel for less than the cost of a new rod should I have bought it from a store... plus saving $15 on the line was pretty good too. Took a couple months but the wait was definitely worth it. Lets just hope we have a good fall run..
