Yes folks, Carp-O-Rama® is once again on the way! Join us on Saturday, June 9th for the greatest fly fishing tournament on the planet! Registration will be at 8am at the Kayak Launch on East River Rd on Grand Island and we should be fishing by 9am. Take Beaver Island Pkwy, make a left on Ferry Rd. Go to the end of Ferry Rd and take a right on East River Rd. The parking lot will be at the end of the road.
Everyone is welcome!
Here are the details on the competition - This is a fly-fishing only tournament and is confined exclusively to the waters you can wade from Grand Island. The first prize award is for longest carp. Once a Carp is landed the participant must cut a piece of tippet material the length of the fish. This piece of tippet material will be turned in at the end of the tournament to determine the winner. And no cheating! We contracted the Russians to keep an eye on things this year since they did such a good job with the presidential election!
RECOMMENDED GEAR - 7-9 wt. rods floating line and at least one spare leader, 8-12lb tippet, polarized glasses and a spool of extra tippet. As for flies, small crayfish flies, hex type nymphs, clouser swimming nymphs, damsel/dragon nymphs, merkins and woolly buggers are all good choices for flies. The water may still be chilly this time of year so waders are highly recommended for wading and tick protection for the state parks (Tick Island) areas. This is a serious note- there are LOTS of ticks on GI and participants should be aware and inspect themselves afterward (or use it as an excuse to have a "friend" help). Sun screen wouldn't hurt either and bring a good supply of water.
More details to follow, so stay tuned!

Wow Chuck, I’m impressed!! Early info release is a good thing. I’m in for a day of laughs, beers and maybe a carp hookup. If you don’t have the biggest carp you lose!!

Hey folkes! Carp-O-Rama is less than 2 weeks away. Conditions are looking good on the river. Hope you are all ready to catch some carp on the fly rod.
We are having the Award Ceremony and cookout in the same place as last year, corner of East river rd. and Ransom Rd. Look for the white tent on the front lawn (thanks GI Steve). We will be supplying dogs, but if you like, bring a side dish or desert to pass. The event will be a BYOB event. Also, let us know if you are coming so we can get a head count for the dogs!
Thanks, Charlie.

Just for info, I went out on the western side of the island yesterday (thurs 8th) water was pretty cold and the wind was up, river was high also, saw no fish. Hopefully the wind will be down Saturday. See you there.
