With the reopening of the Penobscot River in Maine and all the excitement it has generated I thought it might be a good idea to bring out some patterns developed for that river. This is actually a series of flies that was invented by a lady named Fran Stuart from Peterborough, New Hampshire. As the story goes the year was 1988 and the water on the Penobscot was very low and clear. Stuart first tied this fly in a tent by lantern light and got a 12 lb. salmon on it the next day. Hook: Low water single or Wilson double. Tag: Silver wire. Rib: Black ostrich herl counter ribbed with silver wire. Underbody: flat silver tinsel for green and yellow floss and flat gold tinsel for red or orange floss. Body: Fluorescent green, yellow, orange or red floss. Collar: Soft black. Head: Black
