The original featherwing version of this fly was developed in Great Britain. Since its conversion to a hairwing pattern it has become known by salmon fisherman everywhere and may well be the most popular Atlantic salmon fly of all time. Although the original dressing of this fly calls for a deep blue throat, some tiers claim it should be tied a lighter shade of blue. Another popular variation of this fly, the Hairy Mary (and no its not named after my last girlfriend!) is tied with a red-squirrel tail wing. Hook: Up eye salmon hook Tag: Oval silver tinsel and yellow floss Tail: Golden Pheasant crest Body: Black floss Rib: Oval silver tinsel Throat: Deep Blue Hackle Wing: Grey Squirrel tail Head: Black
