This fly was invented by a guide on the west coast named Ed Ward. The one Mr. Ward ties uses a large salmon hook with the point cut off and a second hook fastened to it. In my opinion using a tube for the fly is much easier and a bit more practical. Tube: Brass, Copper, Aluminum or Plastic. Thread: Black Tag: Oval silver tinsel. Rear Hackle: Long, soft, black hackle (pheasant rump works well). Feelers: Nine strands of dyed-orange ostrich plume, on each side of hook shank followed by large dyed orange pheasant rump wound as a hackle. Body: Burnt-orange chenille Body Hackle: Long, skinny badger hackle over the body (I usually counter rib this with fine gold wire). Collar: Small clump of black deer hair spun with the butts trimed flush with the shank followed by large dyed orange pheasant rump wound as a hackle. Wing: Two cree hackles on each side of the shank Hackle: Dyed-orange Guinea hackle. Head: One turn of small black chenille and some lead eyes.
