Alright to you guys this may sound extremely ridiculous but help a guy out. I live in between 2 of the best fall run brown trout streams around, but some how ive never caught a brown trout. EVER. Its nuts. I dont know why. I tried everything. Ive thrown buggers, egg flies, nymphs in front of big browns that i can see. But all they do is scoot around it. It pisses me off. My setup is a 9 ft 7 wt. WF line and usually a 9ft. 4x leader a fly and maybe a small split shot and the ocassional thing-a-mabobber. I catch steelhead and salmon all the time with this setup. Is there some secret ingredient that im missing? HELP ME!!

Youre either not wearing the right color underwear or youre not holding your tongue right

I figured my bright yellow underwear were the problem. Damn it.

Hahaha don't worry mike I've only got one before so I guess I have the same problem and I typically wear bright orange boxers maybe that's the issue as well. Lol

Don't worry Mikey, it's only a matter of time. I've had my best luck on small size pink sucker spawn or Oregon cheese nuclear glow bugs. Low light conditions are by far the best!! Remember they like to hold in slower water than steelies. Good luck!!

aside from the undergarment idea, which i'm not knocking, i would recommend using an indicator with some small, dull colored egg patterns or small dark nymphs. browns are much more fussy about drift than steelhead especially when pounded. getting a very good dead drift is the key in the streams you fish at this time of year.
or you could just wait till mid november when they are done spawning and clobber them with a big white streamer. totally different fish post spawn vs pre or active spawners. later in the year they will chase and hammer streamers but when the salmon are in they are way into eggs. good luck.

follow nick's advice and dont pin your hopes to fish you can see. fish the water, not the fish, and make every drift/swing count.
