Yowzas... Quite the controversy here, eh?
He probably should have talked to Nick first before making that blog post, but I don't really see it as that big of a deal, personally.
Another thing to remember, the canadian guys were VERY cordial when they were here. They were polite, friendly, traded flies and even left a ton of beers for the after party. For all intensive purposes, they both seemed like really nice guys. A blog post saying how good of time they had here doesn't really bother me.

he wasn't just saying he had a good time. the article is pretty typical for a guide trying to fellate himself by claiming he had a "phenomenal day". He's trying to promote his own flies (notice the link to the orvis store?) and pick up a few customers because they think he's the fishing master with an article on the orvis website.
and what is with the boga grip on a carp? is there some mutant variety out there with shark-like teeth?

Part of his job is to blog for Orvis and he did have a great day. That's no different than guides at shops around the country. Was it kind of a goober article? Sure... But I don't think that deserves the type of vitrol that being displayed. He also didn't hotspot a specific hole on a small creek. He said that he was carp fishing the Carp o Rama at Beaver Island. Not exactly location X or anything. Also, while bogas are lame, it's not like he threw it on a wild steelhead or anything. He used it on a freaking carp. If the world was hit by an asteroid tomorrow, all that would be left are carp and cockroaches. Guides in MIchigan boga carp on the regular. As I said. Those guys were nice as hell when they were here. Gave some flies away, welcomed us to come up to Ontario to go fishing with them and even left us with a bunch of beers. Some of you dudes that are bagging on this poor guy didn't even meet him or fish the tourney.

i did fish the tourney. i'm not doubting they were decent dudes. However, when someone invites you to go fishing and you turn around brag about it in a very public place that's a dick move.

i'm not doubting they were decent dudes. However, when someone invites you to go fishing and you turn around brag about it in a very public place that's a dick move. When I moved to WNY I was taken to a bunch of places by guys on this board. I then posted up trip reports here (in a very public place) and told everyone how much fun we had. I have a blog and have put up posts that have linked shops (Oak Orchard included) and even show people SBS's on flies. These guys still take me fishing, so I suppose that "bragging" about a fun day on the water in a public place isn't that big of a dick move... or i'm just a dick and people still choose to hang out with me I'm not trying to pick a fight with anybody. Every single person that I have met on this board has been a salt of the earth dude that I am honored to get to fish with. That being said, i'm pretty disapointed about the personal attacks on this guy simply because you didn't like the style of his blog post. For all intensive purposes, the guy was psyched about his experience fishing the carp-o-rama, happy to have met a bunch of Oak Orchard peeps and simply wanted to share that great experience. Only to be publicly burned at the stake for it. Ironically by some people (not you, Joe) that weren't even there. It's just carp fishing, dudes.

yeah i gotta say no one said they were not good people. i have known Larry for quite a while and i know no better people. Steve i don't know as well but he has been a COR participant at least once before and always conducts himself as a gentleman.
i also said it wasn't a big deal to me either. my only issue was with the site it got posted on, go figure...

Well said Mike. As protective of our resources and OOFS as this place is and as important as I believe it is to be that way, this time may have been a bit unfounded. Having talked with Steve and Larry over the years at the Rama, they are definitely not "those" guys. I really think he was just happy to have had a great day and wantend to brag a bit. Just because you may not do what Steve did dosen't mean he had any mallice in mind.

I obviously would have preferred that he did not mention Grand Island, the specific event and the sponser of the event. He could have easily gotten his point across by saying "A local shop event on the Great Lakes." Other than that it is what it is.

yea i'm not looking for a fight or to crucify anyone.
he could have easily had the same effect and shared his awesome day of fishing if he just posted pics of his flies catching fish while leaving out the location. this board is full of people bragging about the fish they catch with pics, but locations aren't given.

yeah i gotta say no one said they were not good people. Not too sure about that Nick. Did you look at the comment section on his blog? I wont quote it, but it can certainly be seen as a character attack. Anyways, sorry for still even talkig about this. Again, I didn't think the COR was a top secret mission by people in the know. I thought it was just a fun carp tourney open to the public. Some people are acting like this is an unknown spring creek with wild browns. It's Grand Island and carp, neither of which are in danger of hotspotting or a big secret. The thing i'm disapointed about is that I doubt Steve plans on fishing it again, and I personally was looking forward to fishing with those guys again. I hope he sees it as an act of a few. If Nick isn't mad about it, then I don't know why anyone else would. But to each their own. Me talking about is just continuing the conversation, which doesn't do anyone any good. So I will just go look at the other threads and close the book on this thread. Sorry if I touched a nerve with anybody. It certainly wasn't my intent.
