I got a PM today from "cole" who is the first one in on the Group B six-fly swap. His PM was titled the "not good enough" swap. I had a good chuckle over that name, it's real catchy, & I thought it would be a good title for a new thread. For any new signups, posts, notices, pics, questions, etc. for the group of seven tiers, please post on this thread, otherwise the "Fall Steelhead Swap" posts will get real messy. Since the "not good enough" group is so closely tied with the larger group, please be sure to read both threads for any new announcements, notices, rules, etc. At the last swap, the date was changed a couple of months before, so if anything shows up on either thread, please read both.
Here's the list so far: 1. jj - white bunny spey 2. cole - purple October spey or varient of 3. jackstraw 4. newschoolnympher - the "f" it fly Lucky # 5. gengis78 - some sorta twisted purple & white spey-quasi-wet fly (this we gotta see) 6. hershey 7. doublenickel

jackstraw & nsn..Ok, way to go. you guys are in. Great to have you aboard & I'm looking forward to seein' what you have. cole PM'd me that he's been tying about 6 months, jackstraw is just beginning & that's the kind of tier this group is for. We're going to meet at the same time as the other group, so you'll be able to see what some premier tiers do. And these guys are super with giving tips & advice. The swap'll take you a step up in your tying....guaranteed !!
a quote from dave19:
The above quote is one of the rules of the othe group, so we're going by that, too. As far as tying, tie something that "stretches" you a little. For this one, like the other group, no woolly buggers (everyone's 1st tie), no eggs (too easy), no nymphs ( more for dead drifting). Minnow patterns, leeches, wet flies, zonker patterns all swing good. A gurgler would also be good. Check some tutorials on this site. I don't really need to know what you're tying but the info might help the others choose. It's a loose group, it's informal, it's a lot of fun, & we have a few brewskis or pop along the way. If you need some ideas, post the question on-line & I'm sure you'll get plenty of answers.
Oh, and don't worry if you think you're fly is "not good enough." I've never met a fly that was "not good enough" to fish, however, I do have a few flies that I think are "too good" to fish (not tied by me, of course). I just don't have it in my heart to get them wet.

could I be "not good enough" and get into this swap-a-rama being lucky number 5? Pretty please......... with sugar on top? I Thankya Kindly. -Nick p.s. If so I'd most likely be twisting up some sorta spey-quasi-wet fly most likely with purple & white

gee-78...you can be "not good enough" anytime you want!! Will you have your eyes closed & one hand tied behind your back when you tie? Looking forward to see what you have. I know it's going to be a big hit because you ARE Lucky Number 5.
hershey: thanks for the sign up. you're "ON" for # 6. When you have to tie six in a row, the last fly always seems to be the best. So, how come we can't start at # 6 and work our way back to # 1?
newschool: I really enjoyed your pics on the West Branch. they were just super...really, & I'm not B.S.'ing..!!!). Do you think you could tie one of the streamers that you used out there? If they worked for you, they GOTTA' work for the rest of us (ha! ha!)
All you guys are in. There's one spot left & then we're stopping at 7. I'll be posting the same instructions dave19 posted on sending the flies in if you can't make it. Additionally, if you live out of town or won't be there for any reason, PM me & I'll send you my address to mail the flies to. thanks much, gents..jj

Ok, gents...here is an early reminder for the "not good enough" swap & I might as well throw in dave19's Winter Steelhead Swap at the same time. The swaps are EXACTLY 2 months from today, The steelies are starting to run, & it's been a long, hard summer of nice weather. With all the action starting to happen, it could be hard to sit down & tie flies. But you've still got a couple of months to go. I used dave's trick of tying one a day & in no time, they get done. Good luck & see ya' on 12/3..jj
